Swimming pond in mature garden
Departement de Lot

The garden that I walked into to talk about a swimming pond was already completely laid out; borders, paths, trees and lots of plants. It was a more or less mature garden in which the owners had already been working for 15 years and the requirement was to preserve it as much as possible. The best place for the swimming pond would have been right behind the house on the other side of the garden, but that was definitely not an option for the customer for the reasons mentioned above. Ultimately it became the place as shown in the photos. It has become a large triangular swimming pond of 10 x 15 metres with rounded corners.

The plant filter is situated in one of these corners and next to it a wide natural stone staircase has been created in the water to provide easy access to the water. Water lilies are planted on the other side of these steps, which gives a nice natural look to the whole. The transition from water to land is realised with local natural stone that has been split in the quarry, again for a look that is as natural as possible. A terrace of the same material has also been laid directly on the water's edge.
